The Beginning: My Journey as a Founder

I began my journey as a founder during my final college days, driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact beyond just securing a traditional job. Initially, I had ideas or intentions of starting a company. Having Graduated in the computing field, I had minimal business and entrepreneurship knowledge.

The turning point came when I participated in a hackathon, I was paired with four other potential cofounders. Our initial idea was to build a cloud farm by assembling old devices to create a server farm to provide cloud services, as the hackathon progressed, three of our team members dropped out, leaving only my future co-founder and I.

What followed was a whirlwind of challenges and unexpected turns. Neither of us had any experience with startups. We were two young, ambitious individuals thrown into an ocean of unknowns, unprepared for the journey ahead. Every step was a learning curve, and nothing could have prepared us for the adventure ahead.

The initial days were filled with late-night brainstorming sessions, where our conversations ranged from technical solutions to business strategies. We realized there was a significant gap in the market for certain services and products, which led us to pivot our idea several times. This realization was the seed that eventually grew into an e-commerce startup.

Building something we had no idea about was both exhilarating and daunting. The lack of business knowledge meant we had to educate ourselves quickly. We attended seminars, read, and sought advice from experts. Each was a set of new challenges, from understanding market needs to navigating the complexities of setting up an online marketplace.

It was a baptism by fire, but our shared ambition and determination kept us afloat.

One of the most challenging aspects was sourcing quality products and building reliable vendor relationships. We had to research and vet suppliers, many of whom were small businesses themselves. Building these relationships was often time-consuming but essential to maintaining our integrity. Our initial product was rudimentary, built with limited resources and late-night coding sessions. The feedback from early users was invaluable, guiding us to improve and expand our offerings.

Despite the challenges, the journey was fun and rewarding. We laughed at our mistakes, celebrated small victories, and learned something new each day. The process of turning our vision into reality was filled with joy and frustration, but it was such that shaped us as founders.

As we grew, so did our understanding of the broader market and business landscape. We became more involved in the entrepreneurial community, attending events, and forming partnerships with like-minded organizations. These experiences deepened our commitment to our mission and broadened our perspective on how we could make a difference.

Despite our efforts and initial success, the startup eventually faced insurmountable challenges. Market conditions, competition, resources, and our own limited experience contributed to its closure. It was a difficult decision, but it taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, adaptability, and why continuous learning.

Reflecting on my journey, initial ignorance was both a hindrance and a driving force. It pushed us to continually learn, adapt, and innovate.

Even though we didn’t survive, it was more than just a business venture; it became a platform for education and personal growth, promoting learning and an adaptable mindset.

Today, the shared vision inspires me. The experience taught me that with determination, curiosity, and a willingness to learn, dreams can be a reality and make a meaningful impact. Despite ups and downs, it has been an unforgettable chapter in my life, shaping who I am and how I approach future challenges.
